Frequently Asked Questions

What is Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR)?

Youth participatory action research offers a process for centering youth voice, while exploring and taking action on issues that impact their lives.

How can I get involved in Herstories: YPAR Study?

You need to be a self-identified girl between the ages of 16 and 19 that is currently attending high school in Chilliwack. Although you can withdraw at any time, you should be prepared to attend the series of workshop sessions (4) and final presentation. If you are under 18, we have to obtain Written Consent by your legal guardian for you to participate. If you are 18 or over, you will provide your own consent.

If I participate, how will I benefit?

You will benefit by learning more about gender discrimination, while contributing your stories about your sexist experiences. Through sharing with others, you are empowering awareness about the issue and leading action toward creating change within schools. Your knowledge, communication, and advocacy skills will be increased. You will also receive a $50 gift card for participating in the study. We will make sure you have food and drink for every session, as well as a celebratory meal at the end of the research.

Participating in the Herstories: A YPAR Study can be a transformative experience. Sharing your own story can create opportunities for all girls to increase their success and wellbeing.
